Course Content:
  • Definition of and symptomatology associated with, trauma and dissociation (both overt and covert).
  • Exploration of the neuroscience of trauma and how understanding this will help the practice of neurofeedback.
  • Definition and understanding of trauma focussed neurofeedback
  • How can dissociation be assessed, identified, and interfere with treatment outcomes
  • The main fears that can impact on successful treatment, how to identify, address and work with them. 
  • When and why neurofeedback is not the right place to start, with suggestions of what to do when this happens.
  • Some suggestions/recommendations of therapies and strategies that complement trauma focussed neurofeedback.
  • Assessment process including relevant measures to include.
  • How to identify and actively respond to trauma and dissociative behaviours during neurofeedback sessions.
  • How to carry out trauma informed and responsive ILF, alpha theta and synchrony. Including those with complex presentations such as dissociative disorders.
After the course you will be able to:
  • Know how to identify trauma and dissociation
  • Identify categories of developmental trauma and how to relate to the current behaviour of clients and their histories
  • Formulate the main goals of neurofeedback intervention from an arousal model perspective
  • Identify and use the nuances of trauma informed practiceto create successful outcomes
  • Know when neurofeedback is not the best option and what to do instead
  • Understand ways of using ILF and alpha-theta/synchrony training together effectively
